The Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital department of surgery mission is threefold: To provide territory care at base level, to provide outstanding quality clinical care that is cost effective, yet compassionate; and to make significant advances in scientific knowledge and clinical practice through basic and clinical research.

The care of patients is what the dept is all about, and it continues to be the focus of much of our attention.

Our surgeons are on the forefront of new techniques to improve patient care. From newborns to adolescents, from trauma care to cancer surgery- our general surgeons provide the full range of state of the art, world- class surgical care. They have completed rigorous training and specialty fellowships, and many are renowned experienced in their respective fields.

General Surgeries

Indira Gandi Co-operative Hospital Department of Surgery is one of the most innovative, multifaceted academic surgery departments in this region featuring leading-edge treatments of complex medical conditions and comprehensive health care

The volume of general surgery is enormous, 24 hours Casualty Emergency cases are attended along with regular operations and minimal accesses surgery and endoscopy. In addition ,Surgical Super specialties like Urology, Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Minimal accesses surgery and Endoscope are being done.

Surgeons within the General Surgery Department  uphold a multi-faceted mission: to provide compassionate, superior patient care; to offer state-of-the-art technology for a board spectrum of secondary and tertiary surgical procedure and vigilantly translate clinical investigative findings for use in patient care.

Our surgical expertise is divided into patient management categories that includes routine appendicectomy, hernia repair, trauma surgeries, breast cancer, intestinal tumors and hemmoroidectomies. We have also developed a specialized focus in the field of laparoscopy, thyroid clinics, podiatric clinic and cosmetology. We provide expert consultation and education to community for variety of procedures.

Our Activities

The department is conducting 18 outpatient clinics per week with average no. of 100 patients seen in each day. Also we run operative theatre over 6 days each week with average no. of 1000-1500 major surgeries and 7000-9000 out patient procedure each year. The dept. has service of doctors 24/7 which takes care of  trauma and causality wing.
